Phew – I really can’t believe January has gone already. Time is flying by and of course I’m now eagerly anticipating the arrival of our little one. I’ve decided to make these posts monthly, as the weekly format wasn’t really leaving me with much to say – so without further ado, here’s the January round-up!
Nutrition
I’m still in the grip of a MAJOR sweet tooth! I’m managing it by making sure I always have fruit first, before I reach for chocolate, and by trying to limit myself to one sweet indulgence a day. It’s a bit easier to do this when I’m at home by just making sure we don’t have too much lying around the house! I feel like I am getting the rest of my diet right though – lots of water, fruit and veggies, and also plenty of ‘good fats’ like those found in coconut milk, rapeseed oil, nuts and oily fish. At this point in pregnancy you do need to eat a bit more, as baby is putting on weight ready for birth, but I’m trying to stay within the recommended amounts without obsessing over it.
February and March will be challenging as between baby’s arrival and our reduced household budget, I’m going to need quick and economical healthy options to keep up this good streak! I’ve started to prepare by batch cooking home made stews, curries, soups and chilli with lots of veggies, and freezing them. I’m also keeping an eye out for new recipes to try to fit the bill.
Exercise
Same old, same old – still limited by the SPD and likely to remain so until after birth. Physio has advised rest. Now I’m on maternity leave, I’m trying to introduce some gentle Pilates exercises and also get a short walk each day to keep things moving. I’m hoping I will feel the benefit once baby arrives.
Wellbeing
I’m really enjoying the gratitude journal! Filling this in last thing at night puts a smile on my face and helps me sleep more easily. Being on maternity leave is taking some getting used to, but I’m trying to get a balance between the urge to do things and rest/relaxation. It’s good to adjust to the slower pace of life before the major lifestyle change hits us
As for my other 2013 resolutions – obviously our little one isn’t here, so number 1 is out! I have kept up the crochet and am trying to finish another baby blanket for the pram, I can’t wait to show you all. I’ve also managed to wear more lipstick and I will post soon to let you know about some of my new favourites. How are your resolutions going? Have you revised your goals? Let me know in the comments!
You must be getting so excited now for the little one! Thanks for your comment over at Uniquely Healthy, I think having a gratitude journal is one of the best things you can do!
We are, it’s a funny waiting time and we just want baby to be here!
I’ve really started to see the benefits of the journal so it was great to see your post.
